CJ Attends African Chief Justices Meet in Egypt

CAIRO: The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Bart M. Katureebe, is attending a week-long third High Level Meeting of the African Chief Justices and Heads of the Supreme and Constitutional Courts in Cairo,Egypt.

Organized by the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt under the auspices of the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al Sisi, the meet will climax on with an excursion to areas of interest in line with the purpose of the meeting on February 19, 2019.

One of the highlights of the meeting will be the launch of the African Judicial Electronic Hub. There will also be a working session on Improving Judicial Proficiency: A Revolution on Information and Communication Technology(ICT) for African Judiciaries.

The other areas to be covered are: The role of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts in the integration of International Human Rights instruments within domestic legal systems;

The Relationship/Interaction between Constitutional and Supreme Courts and their different approaches to the protection of human rights; Courts, Law and Development, the Challenges in the African nations; Enhancing Judicial Integrity and Combating Corruption as well as The Protection granted to Marginalized Groups, Refugees, Migrants and abducted children within the African legal systems, among others.

Former Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Benjamin Odoki; Hon. Justice Cheborion Barishaki, Justice of Appeal/Constitutional Court and HW Boniface Wamala, Private Legal Secretary to Chief Justice are the other Ugandans in attendance.
